Ichigo Kurosaki is 15 year old boy plagued with the ability to see undead spirits, a skill that torments him more then anything. One day he runs into a Shinigami (Death God) by the name of Rukia who is doing her rounds on earth cleansing evil spirits. Unfortunately for Rukia, the hollow (evil spirit) leaves her battered and bruised. In a last attempt to take the hollow down and save the lives on earth, Rukia decides to transfer some of her powers over to Ichigo and make him a substitute Death God.  During the transferring  of her powers, Rukia some how gave him more powers then she should have and leaves her completely power-less and frail. Once Soul Society (name of the spirit realm) caught wind of Rukia’s actions, a team of Death Gods were sent down to earth to take her into custody and face trial for her actions.  Soul Society’s lack of compassion towards Rukia leads Ichigo on a quest to go into Soul Society and save the life of the person who once saved his.
